According to “the people who know” paper is the traditional first year anniversary wedding present …paper ????? Once upon a time, people wrote letters. Brides received beautiful monogrammed stationery with their official new status imprinted so all could see. Monogrammed stationary was a romantic, elegant gift.
Here are a few one year anniversary ideas…
First idea.. My favorite is tickets. Concert tickets, airline tickets, train tickets, I love an adventure. It’s an experience we can share as a couple or a family. Memories are wonderful experiences that help forge a strong present and future relationship.
Second.. Pictures of those adventures. Your wedding day could be called your first “adventure”.
Third.. Photo Albums. Shutterfly.com, Walgreens.com/photo, snapfish.com or your local camera shop have websites that compile photos and complete a memory book of your first year. This works well as a couple or group project. Many a cold winter evening can be spent selecting the perfect pictures. Memories making memories.
Fourth.. books. A subscription to a favorite magazine. I love the iPad readers. It’s not paper, but it keeps the clutter of accumulated magazines and books under control. Kindle or the Nook make great gifts for the avid reader. Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble are the go to sources for either of these.
Fifth.. A tree. This is a little far fetched, but paper is made from wood. Let’s say we’re getting to the root of things. Planting a tree together symbolizes growth and hope in the future. If your not ready to landscape your own property consider working or donating to a neighborhood project. Check out shoparborday.org for downloadable certificates. The US Forest Department has a similar website, thetreesremember.com you can dedicate a tree to your spouse.
The most important element is knowing who your one true love is. The art of gift giving starts with the knowledge of the your loved one. If you’re in doubt plan together. Celebrate, make life happen. The world revolves and time continues. Make the most of it. Make memories. As Memories form the chain of life.
